Mary's back! ...And she's brought Asian fusion cuisine with her!
The welcome mat is out at this cozy café where great taste meets great design. The Green Papaya opened in December of 2008 with the concept of creating wholesome, fresh, home-style food at a reasonable price from Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, China, and Vietnam.
For 15 years, Mary Chern, the owner, entertained people with authentic Chinese food at this location, formerly known as the China Tea House. She then took a 10-year hiatus, but realized that she missed her friendly customers and the liveliness of the restaurant. Now she’s back to rouse your taste buds with Asian fusion cuisine at the Green Papaya, and she’s brought the same simplicity and style, quality and value, and individuality and hospitality that people came to know and love over the years.
Set within a chic but unpretentious venue, the Green Papaya is influenced in concept by trendy noodle bars of Asian cities fused with the relaxed and sociable ambience of continental European cafés. Take your pick from comfy booths by the window or bistro-style tables as a place to hang out with friends, do some work, hold an informal business meeting, or bring the family. The Green Papaya is all about enjoying food in a relaxed informal atmosphere, so you can come for a cup of tea, a light snack, or a hearty meal.
Each dish is prepared with natural ingredients, spices, and herbs to bring to you the unique flavors of the different Asian regions. You'll enjoy mouth-watering dishes such as buttery roti canai bread with a sultry curry dipping sauce, remarkably tender and perfectly marinated Saigon Beef, and plump wontons bursting with fresh shrimp in a soothing chicken broth. They also serve refreshing fruit smoothies, frothy tea with black tapioca pearls, and a wide selection of other hot and cold drinks. The food at the Green Papaya is exceptionally fresh and lively, and the prices are so affordable you can reach for the check first and look like a success. Plus they invite you to B.Y.O.B. to enhance your dining experience!
Since all the dishes are made fresh to order, the chefs can adjust the levels of spiciness from fairly mild to outright incendiary, depending on your taste, tolerance, mood, or degree of insanity. They're deft at it too, especially when firing up the BTUs. For those that are health conscious, you'll be happy to know that the majority of our dishes are quickly flash fried in a wok to lock in the natural goodness of the vegetables and herbs, while keeping the fat to a minimum. Also of note is the abundance of vegetarian options including vegan chicken and the tofu that is made in-house daily!
The Green Papaya has a loyal following that gives their food "two Tom Yums up!" so check out our reviews and stop in to try it for yourself!
