Every year there are River Edge events that the residents look forward to. the 4th of July Festivities with carnival rides, food, and beer truck has been the highlight for decades. So much so that many come back to visit to catch up with old friends. You also will want to check out other events like River Edge Day, the St Peter’s Carnival and the River Edge Run. River Edge hosts a variety of events during the year that attract residents new and old. The main events run by the town are the 4th of July festivities and River Edge Day (1st weekend in October). The borough also has a tree lighting ceremony in December which includes carol led by the Girls Scouts, refreshments, and a visit by Santa.
Now in its 4th year North Jersey Partners brokered by eXp Realty is proud to present their coat drive.
Over the past 3 years they have collected hundreds of coats to benefit the Jersey cares Coat Drive. The coats are distributed to New Jersey residents in need of warmth this winter. Please consider donated new or gently used coats to this worthy cause.

The Bergen County Historical Society presents Holiday Scenes and Songs at Historic New Bridge Landing a special outdoor holiday event on Sunday December 5th 4 pm-5:30 pm. 1201 Main Street, River Edge, NJ.

The journey will begin at the Steuben House and end at the Campbell-Christie House with a holiday sing-a-long and a tree lighting.
Be on the lookout for Sinterklaas, as he might make an appearance during the evening.
If you are still looking for that unique holiday gift, make sure to take a peek at the treasures in the gift shop while you sip on some hot cocoa and enjoy some holiday treats.
Per the state parks’ guidelines, face masks are required inside all historical buildings.
Ticket reservations are required: $20 non-member adults, $10 non-member students, $15 adult and $7 student- BCHS members
Free parking available on site or take the train to the “New Bridge Landing” station on the Pascack Valley line.
Dogs are permitted on site on a leash but not in the houses.

ATTENTION LEGO ENGINEERS!
This month we have programs for all LEGO ages. Patrons will create LEGO designs for display in the library. Registration is limited for each program and patrons can only register for one program. Click here for registration.
Holiday Mosaics for ages 5+ – Tuesday, December 14th. Engineers will follow a design picture and create a holiday themed mosaic on a 6×6 plate. Each mosaic kit contains everything needed to create the design. This is a passive program for builders to complete at the library between the hours of 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Each mosaic should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. When completed, all mosaics will be displayed in the library. Children under 10 will need adult supervision – small parts.
Harry Potter Kits for ages 8+ only – Starting on Wednesday, December 8th. Participants can pick up a Happy Potter themed LEGO kit to bring home and build. Once completed, patrons will return the creations for display in the library.
Take and Create Display Box for ages 5+ – Starting on Wednesday, December 8th. Patrons can pick up a LEGO display box to build an individual design for display in the library. Each box contains a variety of LEGO pieces to create a unique design.
Once again the Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs will be facilitating the Senior Shoveling Program to assist seniors in town who cannot shovel their driveways and walkways. They connect River Dell students who volunteer to help out when it snows.
Welcome to the 2nd Annual Holiday Decorating Contest run by the borough! This year applications must be submitted by December 5, 2021 via Community Pass at the link below. Judging will be done between December 8 and December 12 and winners will be announced on December 15 on Facebook.

The 34th Annual Boy Scout wreath Fundraiser is here! Over the past few weeks the Boy Scouts delivered a flyer to all residents to support their annual wreath fundraiser. Wreaths are $27 and are decorated with a big red bow and 3 natural pinecones.
Order must be received by Saturday, November 27, 2021 and will be delivered, contact free, on Saturday November 27, 2021.

This year the Mayor and Council have added a new contest for kids to get crafty this holiday season. River Edge kids through 18 years old are invited to decorate an ornament for the borough holiday tree. The winning ornament will be displayed on the holiday tree for all to see this season.
The winner will be contacted on December 2 and will be asked to attend the tree lighting ceremony on December 5. They will also receive a Target gift card as a prize.

River Edge Day is back after a year of being a virtual event! River Edge Day has always been one of the best events in town because it brings together residents, local organizations and businesses to celebrate our town. This year will be a wonderful event you won’t want to miss!
Things to See:
The River Edge Health Department will be providing free rabies shots for resident’s cats and dogs. the event will take place on October 2, 2021 from 10:00am – 12:00pm at the Memorial Park pavilion.
Registration is required by calling the Health Department at 201-599-6299. Social distancing will be enforced.
Once again the Friends of the River Edge Library will be hosting their annual book sale. the event will be held on October 23 inside the River Edge Library. The book dropoff will be help on October 2 at the garage next to the library. Please support this event by dropping off your old books and find some new ones at the sale!
The 39th Annual River Edge Run will take place on Saturday October 16, 2021. The River edge Run has long been a Spring staple in River edge attracting runners from all over the area. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the event was cancelled in 2020 and moved to the Fall in 2021. As always the event features a 5K race, health walk and 1 mile fun run. the 5K race starts and ends at Cherry Hill School and winds its way through the streets of River Edge.
Every year as a part of the 4th of July Festivities the Borough hosts a Movie in the Park at Kenneth B George Field. The event is a great way to get out and enjoy a movie with family and friends under the stars.
Every year in late September St Peter the Apostle Church hosts their carnival. It is always well attended by local residents who enjoy the carnival rides, games, and food. The carnival runs from Thursday to Sunday with varied hours. Pre sale tickets are sold at a discount after Sunday masses before the event. They also run a 50/50 throughout the event.

Ed McDermott selflessly served the Borough of River Edge for 50 years. He began his career as a police officer in town in 1970 and served in that capacity for 30 years. Upon retiring form the police force, Ed became River Edge’s full time police dispatcher for the next 20 years. Ed recently retired this past January, 2021.
Ed has lived in River Edge for 70 years. He attended St. Peter the Apostle School where he also served as an altar boy. ed then went to River dell High School where he excelled at baseball and football and was named River dell’s Outstanding Senior Athlete. With Ed’s passion and love of sports, he was a coach in town for the babe Ruth, Little League, and Junior Football Leagues.
During ed’s tenure as a police officer, he received numerous commendations and awards including the Valor Award, Meritorious Service Award, Life Saving Award, and the Exceptional Duty Award to name a few. Ed also served as a DARE officer in the elementary schools where he received and Achievement Award for Performance. He was a member of the River Edge Police Honor Guard, and also an instructor at the Bergen County Police & Fire Academy for Defensive Driving. Ed has received over 100 letters of appreciation and thanks from the residents of River Edge.
Ed considers it an honor to have served River Edge for the last 50 years. He appreciates the opportunity to have helped and served the residents of the community, and thanks his loving family for their endless support. He is looking forward to enjoying time with his family, especially his grandchildren, Chase, Riley, Dylan, Owen and his grand dogs Cuffs and Oakley.

To celebrate Independence Day River Edge hosts a few events, first of which is Music in the Park. This event is typically held on July 3rd and features a live band, food trucks, and some local vendors. It is a great night to get outside, spend some time with neighbors and celebrate our independence.
On the 4th of July River Edge holds its annual parade with participants form youth groups, fire departments, police departments, local officials, bands, VFW, Knights of Columbus, and more. The parade starts at Cherry Hill School and works its way down Bogert Rd to Continental Ave and concludes at the viewing stand at Veteran’s Memorial Park.
At the conclusion of the parade is the carnival held at Veteran’s Memorial Park. The carnival features rides for the kids, local vendors and community groups, food provided by the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and beer truck provided by the Knights of Columbus. This is a very attended event with reunions of old River Edge neighbors throughout the park. It is definitely not to be missed.
River Edge Day is typically held the 1st weekend in October at Veteran’s Memorial Park. It hosts local vendors, town organizations, local businesses, crafts, and food. It is meant to foster involvement in the community and bring attention to local organizations and businesses. The kids can make pumpkin creations or get their face painted and everyone can enjoy a hot dog or hamburger and learn more about the town.
Other events are run during the course of the year by town organizations, churches and businesses. Below is a list of some of the events you may want to attend.
